Hello again Xanadu-ers!
It’s been a busy year and I’ve been meaning to write this for a while now but…between a trip to the UK to catch up with family and friends and starting Spanish classes again, settling down to write has only just made it to the top of my list. Also, mostly, the sun’s been shining and it’s been lovely to get out and enjoy walking now it’s a bit cooler and we’ve also been catching up with some of our favourite bands on the coast (along with some of Richard’s favourite foods such as fish n chips and Sunday roast!). After spending all summer eating (and drinking) with our guests and then the post-season relaxation and junk food, it’s also now time to start the diet….oh, here comes xmas!!
We also had a request from a Spanish couple who were desperate to come for a chill out break in mid October. We were a bit reluctant, especially as the temperature had deteriorated since the terrible storms suffered by southern Spain in September and we prefer our guests to come when they can experience Finca Xanadu at its best. Luckily, even though the pool was beyond use (unless you’re a penguinJ) the Hot Tub was lovely and the sun shone so all was well. We had some great evenings practicing our Spanish and their English over long dinners and much wine in the warmth of the conservatory. Finca Xanadu worked its magic and we look forward to seeing these lovely people again next year.
So now we have xmas fast approaching along with olive picking season which is underway already. Our crop this year is not looking good as we lost a lot in the high winds over the past few weeks. Still, we had a great crop last year and, even though we only have a few trees, we still have plenty of oil left from last year so we should have enough for use in the kitchen in 2020. Just as well as I’ve found some great olive oil cake recipes I want to try…
Despite having a late finish to our season we’ve already started working on improving the garden (a never-ending job) and decorating the lounge ready for 2020. I’m also hoping to get some more workspace in the kitchen so I can cater for everyone without struggling with where to put everything. We will be revamping the website so look out for some new pictures coming up soon. Unfortunately we need to put our prices up a little for 2020 which will be the first time in 3 years but we are holding this years’ prices of 200€ per couple per night all inclusive of accommodation, delicious and plentiful food and all drinks, including cava, wine spirits and soft drinks for bookings made before the end of this year. So if you’re thinking of joining us next year now is a good time to get in touch.
We already have some bookings for 2020 and several others in the planning stage. Brexit is obviously not putting people off booking their holidays from the UK and of course, many of our guests are from other parts of Europe too. Everyone is welcome here at Finca Xanadu.
As for Xmas, we’re spending Xmas day with friends at a local restaurant. We’ve also got a friends’ “Big Birthday” coming up on the 1st January which we are hosting here at Xanadu…and yes, they know their parents were really inconsiderate!
Whatever you’re doing, have a great xmas and we look forward to hearing from you soon!
Gina & Richard xx
